Asthanga Yoga is not a mystical practice. It is not only accessible to the hyper flexible. It is certainly not only for the rich – whatever our society has taught us.
I have practiced yoga since I was 3. I’ve lived through “Yoga the strange esoteric practice” right through to “Yoga the hip and oh so schwa schwa practice” – It been a ride.
After many years of practicing I stumbled upon Ashtanga. Fell in love, practiced and taught. Many Ashtanga practitioners are extremely flexible due to the required daily practice. The ease of bending comes naturally after many years. But like my first Ashtanga teacher always said. You can be 80 years old with little flexibility and be more “advanced” than a young flexible student.
With all the hype around flexibility would you believe me if I told you that the most powerful poses for health and longevity are accessible to EVERYBODY??! That starting your day and giving 15 mins consistently will change your body, energy and health.
There is room for yoga in every home. There is time for yoga everyday. There is a practice that is available to you right now and meets your body and flexibility wherever it is.
