Horse riding adventures on scenic routes in & around the farm and the surrounding veldt on our fantastic horses. Book for 1 hour outrides, day rides inclusive of picnics or multi day rides inclusive of a bed & meals. Riders of all skill levels welcome.
Our guides and instructors are always present to assist and they are there to make sure you have a memorable experience. You and your family can feel safe under the watchful eyes of a team of dedicated and qualified instructors.
We cater for any level of riding experience, from the tenderfoot (totally new to riding), Beginner/Novice (starting to learn the ropes, but lacks confidence) to Intermediate (has some experience) and Experienced (can ride well).

Maximum number of riders per activity is limited to 12, and it might be less, depending on the activity.
Doornkraal has always had horses. We have relied on them for many generations and the 140 years that this farm has been in care of the Le Roux family. And although horses are not used anymore in daily farming activities, they remain loved and trusted companions. We highly value a good temperament, willingness and kindness towards people in a riding horse.
Therefore DOORNKRAAL HORSES are carefully selected from various bloodlines of South African horses that were bred for local conditions – the legendary Cape Riding Horse, Boerperd and Nooitgedachter – known for their outstanding temperament, versatility, riding comfort and sure-footedness.
The big variety of routes were selected to introduce riders to the breathtaking and unspoilt Klein Karoo landscape. Duration of rides is from 1½ hours to multi-day guided adventures. We accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels.

Thanks to Mikayla for taking care of them and giving them this very memorable holiday. They are already planning the next visit!!!!

This year I joined the Coast to Karoo Trail, and it was unforgettable—stunning scenery, strong and reliable horses, great food, and warm hospitality. You arrive as a guest, but leave as part of the family.

a year agoOne of the best rides available globally, I would not hesitate to recommend the 6 day Coast to Karoo ride. Incredibly solid, safe and well cared for horses, great hospitality, unbelievable scenery and fantastic riding make this a bucket list experience that should not be missed by experienced riders.

a year agoWhat a fabulous experience. Our guide Nikky was so knowledgeable and took us on a 2-hour ride through the most exquisite and varied scenery. We are complete horse novices but felt totally at ease with these superb horses. Calm but responsive and sure-footed. And the gorgeous romantic picnic at the end, will all home-made food was just perfect! Highly recommended.
