Experience our permaculture farm in the Klein Karoo
Numbi Valley farm is a wonderful example of off-grid, sustainable living. We practice permaculture on the farm and have lived here, entirely off-grid since 2004. We are passionate about living in harmony with nature, regenerative agriculture, sustainable living and creating abundant eco systems for all to thrive.
Come enjoy our cozy clean guest cottage which has views across the Olifants river valley and towards the Swartberg mountain range.
There is only one private guest cottage on the farm, allowing for a romantic and peaceful getaway, or the perfect family escape. It has its own fresh water natural plunge pool, outdoor fire pit and outdoor pizza oven.
We offer yoga, farm tours, fresh produce, excellent trigger-point massage, delicious pizzas and other meals. There are wonderful walks in the succulent Klein Karoo surrounding the farm, mountain biking on country roads, horse riding for all levels of experience, star gazing evenings and lots more to do in the area.
We encourage a daytrip to explore the dramatic Swartberg pass, stop in Prince Albert for lunch, and a drive back through Meiringspoort to visit the Meiringspoort waterfall. Our minimum stay is 2 nights, but you might find you will want to stay for much longer.
We look forward to welcoming you to our farm, be it for a stay in the cottage, a permaculture tour, for a yoga class or massage.

3 weeks agoA most nourishing experience, with the unfurling vast and varied mountainous landscape, to the silky smooth nutrient rich natural pool to immerse yourself in whilst watching the sun setting, followed by the outdoor fire to delve into conversations or simply star gaze, and then delight in the colourful display and immense flavours of the organic vegetables and fruit. The cottage appears to have been formed out of, and perfectly integrated with the natural surroundings. It offers all the comforts as well as quietude felt through its practical and creative simplicity. You feel completely at ease and peaceful here, as well as childlike wonder through the experience. The outdoor seating, hammock and pool invite you to fully relax and enjoy the expansive surroundings. The birds gift a morning symphony on sunrise and it’s wonderful to look upon and explore the orchids. There is also a trail to the top of a nearby hill. I was welcomed to further enjoy the studio, offering a perfect space for a yoga and meditation practice. Immense Gratitude.

a week agoOur 2 day stay at this off grid property was the highlight of our Karoo travels. Very friendly host. So inspirational and informative to see the productive permaculture gardens in this semi arid landscape. Would love to visit in summer to make use of the pool.

2 months agoWe had an absolutely fabulous stay at Numbi. A true gem and oasis in the Karoo. Loved the simplicity yet well thoughtfully built and decorated cottage using natural resources and upcycling man made materials. The views on the mountain, the abundant starlight and peaceful walks (and ofcourse my lovely companion:) made it an unforgettable stay. Definitely will be back and look forward to share and learn a bit more about the permaculture build veggie garden and “fruit forest”

2 months agoNot only is Numbi Valley an amazingly tranquil place to unwind in a natural infinity pool whilst admiring the stunning Swartberg sunset but it is also a place to learn about the huge benefits of permaculture, soil conservation and sustainable farming, building and food production. A truly unique stay with incredibly helpful, knowledgable and respectful hosts. 10/10 would definitely return if we ever return to SA which hopefully we will.
